The Belties of Curleywee Farm

The Belties of Curleywee Farm was launched at Wigtown Book Festival in September 2011.  Written by me and illustrated by the wonderful Pauline James, the story follows the first adventure of Belted Galloway twins Finlay and Flora. When Finlay wakes to find his sister missing, the little calf has to summon up all his courage to find out what has happened to her.  The book is ideal for the under fives and early readers.  It features full page illustrations that both children and adults enjoy!

In Spring 2012 I was invited to Penninghame Primary in Newton Stewart as the children had been working on a project inspired by my book! The children had created a little play based on the story of Finlay and Flora that included sounds and props, including a life size cuddly toy collie dog.  As you can see it was fantastic and incredibly touching to see them enjoy the book enough to make cardboard Belties!

Below is a promotional video for the book.

  1. We need more Curlywee Farm books. What happens next? My Great Grandson (at the time- age 1 1/2) loved the book! I read it to him at least 100 times over three days time. After I left to come home, his parents threatened to disown me as they had to read it many more times :). He is now 2 and is still enjoying the book. His Daddy just purchased thier first full blooded Beltie bull calf and already has several half Beltie cows. A USA reader.

    1. Thank you so much for your message. I am delighted to hear how much your great grandson enjoyed my book. I have passed your comments on to the publisher in the hope that it gives them a bit of a prod in the right direction. The next story has been waiting to be illustrated for two years! Fingers crossed that it will happen this year!

  2. Maybe it's time to get a new publisher! That's a long time to wait. I purchased two inferior Belted Galloway books for him. He wasn't near as happy with them as your book. The same USA Reader
